Urological Cancers
Well trained urological surgeons and oncologist at Indraprastha Apollo hospitals with a backup of all diagnostic tools, including MRI, CT Scan, Nuclear scan and ultrasound including TRUS, offer a comprehensive uro-oncolgy service. The Apollo cancer institute has facility for all treatment modalities : Radiation, chemotherapy and surgery with uro-oncologists under one roof. All major uro-oncologic surgery (and reconstructive procedures) like radical cystectomy, radical prostatectomy and appropriate reconstructive procedures are under taken. Most of the uro-oncological procedures are done laparoscopically like radical nephrectomy, systectomy and radical prostatectomy. These laparoscopic procedures are associated with minimal pain, morbidity and lesser hospital stay.
The Department of Urology offers a comprehensive Urological service to diagnose and treat congenital disorders, stone disease, urological cancers, incontinence, infertility, erectile dysfunction and other urinary problems in adults and children. The urology department is located on the first floor of the OPD block.
Lithotripsy and Minimally Invasive Endourological treatment for Stone Disease
Lithotripsy, a method of treating kidney and ureteric stones, without surgery, is available with facilities for complementary methods of treating stones endoscopically. The New generation Dornier is a versatile machine and has a long record of proven safety and efficiency. This enables a vast majority of kidney and ureteric stones to be treated without requiring surgery and anaesthesia. Most of the procedures are done even without injections / pain killers. The positioning, focusing and delivery of shock waves are all controlled by advance computerized systems with safety cutoffs to prevent damage by human error. This machine has the facility to treat stones under ultrasound guidance also to avail radiation and localise radiolucent stones.
Endourology
All aspects of endourology (surgery through a telescope which does not require open operations) including treatment for prostate (TURP), bladder cancers (TURBT), urethral strictures (narrowing of water pipes), kidney and uretic stones (PCNL and URS) are available. Intracorporeal lithotripsy (breaking of stones through endoscopes) using the pneumatic lithotripsy and laser avoids open surgery for ureteric stones. High class imported equipments with established track record are already available at Apollo and newer methods in future will be made available. Stat-of-the-flexible utererenoscopy with laser lithotripsy is now a routine procedure.
 Minimally Invasive Treatment for Prostate Disease
in addition to routine Endoscopic surgery like TURP procedures like HOLEP (Laser) and Transurethal needle Ablation (TUNA) are also available. These reduce blood loss and hospital stay. They are useful in the elderly and high risk patients. Thulium laser has the facility for prostatic resection as well as prostatic ablation.
Urodynamics
The most advanced, fully computerized urodynamic machines at Apollo Hospitals will help in comprehensive management of incontinence and neurogenic bladder, so as to enable the right treatment. These machines also include 'EMG' facilities which are a must for diagnosing urinary and bowel problems secondary to spinal injuries, stroke, parkinsonism and other neurological disorders. This laboratory has well designed facilities for the entire range of studies including uroflowmetry, filling and voiding cystometry, uretheral pressure profile studies (UPP) and VCUG (ind addition to EMG and cavernosometry).
Flexible Cystoscopy
Flexible cystoscopy is a painless procedure under local anesthesia to diagnose lever urinary problem and some procedures can also be done simultaneously like biopsy and stent removal. It is a outdoor procedure.
Erectile Dysfunction
A problem for over 10% of adult population can be fully investigated and treated. Indraprastha Apollo hospitals provides specialized facilities for pharmacotherapy, cavernosometry and cavernosography, in addition to Doppler Studies for assessment of blood flow. All treatments including Penile prosthesis are available.
Pediatric Urology
All Pediatric Urological problems are evaluated and appropriated medical and surgical procedures are performed by well trained urologists. These include all forms of reconstructive surgery and endoscopic pediatric urology. Paediatric laparoscopic surgery is also well developed and may procedures are done routinely.
Laparoscopic urology
(Keyhole Surgery)
Complex urological surgery is being routinely performed by laparoscopic means. It ensures minimal complications, less blood loss and early to work. Range of procedures available are laparoscopic Nephrectomy, (Simple, donor & Radical) pyeloplasty, adrenelectomy, orcheidopexy, ureterolithotomy, ureteric reimplantation. Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy is one of the largest series. Laparoscopic cystectomy and radical prostatectomy are also done routinely.
Renal Transplantation
Supported by an excellent nephrology team, we have had a very successful Renal Transplant programme for many years. Laparoscopic donor nephtrectomy is one of the highlight of the programme.
Male Infertility
Apollo offers complete range facilities for investigation and treatment of male infertility. Female infertility investigation by gynaecologist with special training in infertility is also provided. Treatment is coordinated with the assisted conception unit and an 'IVP' laboratory (IUI, IVF and ICS). Facilities for sperm banking are also available.
