Introduction to Gastric Cancer
Gastric cancer or stomach cancer is cancer of the stomach
which is located in the upper abdomen. It is a malignant
disease that occurs in the stomach. It occurs more in
men as is most common in the age group above 55.
Symptoms and Diagnosis of gastric
Cancer 
When the symptoms of gastric cancer begin to show, it
indicate advanced stages of the disease. These symptoms
include
Abdominal discomfort or pain
Blood in stool
Bloating (especially after eating)
Diarrhea or constipation
Fatigue
Gastrointestinal bleeding
Indigestion or heartburn
Loss of appetite (anorexia)
Nausea and vomiting
Weight loss
For diagnosis of Gastric cancer, physical examination
and laboratory tests are performed .A tumor or mass
may indicate advanced stages. Tests for diagnosis of
gastric cancer includes fecal occult blood test, complete
blood count, upper I.G series, gastroscopy and imaging
tests.
Treatment for gastric cancer
Treatment for gastric cancer depends on the location
and extent of the tumor, the stage of the disease and
the medical condition of the patient. The only curative
treatment is surgical removal or resection. Other than
this, chemotherapy or radiation therapy can also be
provided as adjuvant treatment.
Risk factors and causes of
Gastric Cancer
There are no fixed causes of gastric cancer. However,
the risk factors in gastric cancer includes a diet that
is high in salt and nitrates and low in vitamins A and
C. Medical conditions like vitamin B 12 deficiency,
chronic inflammation of the stomach, intestinal polyps
can also increase the risks of gastric cancer. There
can also be some hereditary risk factors.
