Panchakarma Therapy in India

Panchakarma is the most popular Ayurvedic therapy used for cleansing and purifying the whole body. Panchakarma has proved very beneficial and works on the overall health and wellness of the body. The whole treatment is divided into three different stages. The therapy works on removing the dosha disproportion by cleaning the waste accumulated in the different channels of the body which are known as Srotas. Panchakarma (five actions) gives priority to the condition of the patient and according to it the duration of the period of the therapy varies. 

Panchakarma Therapies

  • Nasya (instillation of nasal medication)
  • Snehavasthi (medicated oil enema)
  • Vamana (therapeutic emesis)
  • Kashyavasthi (medicated decoction enema)
  • Virechana (therapeutic purgation)

All the Panchakarma therapies are strictly followed with the prescribed diets and Ayurvedic medicines. The whole process takes approximately 50-51 days and cures almost every kind of illness related to the human body. Panchakarma therapy works on enhancing immunity and also increases the life span. The different methods are

Poorva Karma (Preparation Method)

  • Paachana (digestion)
  • Swedana (fomentation)
  • Snehana (internal and external oleation)

Pradhan Karma (Main Method)

  • Vamana (induced vomiting)
  • Virechana (induced purgation)
  • Anuvasana (medicated oil enema)
  • Asthapana (medicated decoction enema)
  • Nasya (drug administration through nose)

Paschat Karma (Post Therapy Measures)

  • Sansarjan Krama (specific diet)
  • Dhumapana (nasal smoking of medicinal cigars)

Nasya therapy is also widely accepted Panchakarma therapy which includes head, face, shoulders and chest massages with specific herbal oils to make the patient perspire. The medicine is poured through the nostrils while inhaling. A vigorous massage is done of the nose area, chest, palms and foot. The treatment is ideal for treating headaches, migraine, sinusitis and rhinitis.
