Though the US companies are ruling the Indian market to a great extent, but this time it is an Indian Hyderabad-based drug major Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories that has launched anti-osteoporosis drug Ibandronate Sodium in tablet form in the US market. It appeared in a 150 dosage in the market. A generic version of Swiss pharmaceutical giant, Ibandronate Sodium is used to treat and prevent post-menopausal osteoporosis.
After the approval of its new drug application by the US drug regulatory body, US Food and Drug Administration, this generic drug was launched in the US market on 29th June, 2012. The drug producing company Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories said that their Ibandronate Sodium 150 mg tablets will be available in cartoons of three blister packs containing one tablet each for once a month dosage.
The generic version produced by the Swiss company Roche’s Boniva clocked sales of around $486 million in the US market last year. The Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories is also expecting to get a good positioning in the US market after the launch of this Indian drug.
