Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, inaugurated Healthcare Tourism Portal of India at the ‘SAAARC Trade Mart’ in the Global Exhibition on Service, that was organized at ITPO, Pragati Maidan. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr J.P. Nadda, Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Ms Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry.
The launch of the portal was done on the event of the launching of 3-day Global Exhibition on Services in New Delhi that started on 23rd April, 2015. Ms Smriti Irani, Minister of Human Resource Development and Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister for Communications and Information Technology were in attendance at the event. A short film on medical tourism in India was also shown after the inauguration ceremony.
The task of the development of the Healthcare Tourism Portal was in the hands of the Department of Commerce, Government of India and the Services Export Promotion Council. The portal has been started as an endeavor to offer a one-stop shop that offers dynamic and genuine information that can be put into use by a prospective medical tourist or a treatment seeker from all around the world.
Healthcare Tourism in India
This portal has been developed as an all-inclusive information website covering travel as well as hospital related information in India. Currently, the site enlists 124 accredited medical facilities that is inclusive of 93 medical institutes, 30 Ayurveda and Wellness Centers and 1 special category center. Out of the total of 124, 73 are in Tier I cities and the remaining in cities belonging to Tier II.
The medical institutes that are listed in the portal can be located easily by searching for different options such as medical specialty, locations, language options and procedures that are provided in the given hospitals and their certifications. The medical and wellness programs that are an institute’s specialty are highlighted. The website also displays other related details such as travel and visa formalities, costs of various treatments at the Indian hospitals, accommodation tariff, last-mile connectivity, advantages of treatments In India, information on how to make preparation about your future journey and treatment etc.
